After breakfast at the Chilcotts we headed toward Cherbourg, stopping at Ste-Mere-Eglise. We got to go in the church where the paratrooper landed on the roof and many others landed in trees,etc. right in front of the Germans, who were controlling this town. Many men died that night.
We made one more quick stop at a place where there was a fierce battle at La Fiere. It was led by a man from Birmingham.We took some pictures and then headed for the ferry in Cherbourg.
We said goodbye to Joe and Brenda and left on the ferry. A guest at the Chilcotts had given us something called Travel-ease to take before our crossing, and it went much better this time.
As we entered Portsmith Harbour, a group of about 30 men from the Aber Valley Male Voice Choir seranaded us with a song called Stout Hearted Men, This Little Light of Mine, and several others. One they sang in Welch. They were from Wales, and apparently male choirs are quite popular there. You can here them sing here:

It was a delightful end to our time away from England.
